Me — Local-First Personal Agent

Me is an open-source personal agent — a local-first companion that serves one person’s growth, not just their task queue. It remembers, learns, and proactively cares, while every byte of data stays on your machine under ~/.me/.

Philosophy

  • Local-first — all data lives on your machine. No cloud account, no telemetry.
  • Bring your own LLM — any OpenAI-compatible provider works: DeepSeek, OpenAI, Groq, or a self-hosted Ollama.
  • Companion, not task queue — designed around memory and personal growth rather than another todo list.

Three Ways to Use It

  • Desktop App — double-click to start, no terminal needed; packaged installers for macOS (.dmg) and Windows (.exe)
  • Web UI — browser interface served locally at http://localhost:9786
  • CLI / REPL — full control from the terminal, with a first-run setup wizard for provider and key

Technical Highlights

  • Elixir backend with a supervised agent runtime; Node.js / Electron desktop client
  • Provider-agnostic LLM layer: one interface over any OpenAI-compatible endpoint
  • Config and memory live in ~/.me/, so switching providers never loses history
